Default Alternatives to DELL? Must be CHEAP!

Anyone know similar online retailers to DELL as my current computer order with them is in dispute, companies offering 0% finance would be a big Plus point!

Looking for P4 3.0, 1gb ram, 80gb(ish) hard drive, 17" tft for under £500, The one I have ordered from Dell comes out at £429 delivered but now they want to add £50 on to the price and I would love to be able to tell them to stick it!

Build one yourself - it will be cheaper & better quality for the money.

Ok,

If I need to buid one myself wheres the best place to look for components?

I actually built a PC myself when I was 12 with no help, saved up and bought 1 piece at a time, system was a pentium 75! I guess things have changed a bit since then but I wouldnt mind giving it a go.

Ive heard overclockers mentioned a lot, is this the place to get stuff?

www.ebuyer.co.uk - bought loads from them (at least 4 builds) and no problems, so far...

Again - ebuyer are great until something is broken.

Although they were very helpful to me with my canon cashback on my 300D and about £50 cheaper anyway at the time.

aria do some great daily deals if you just need one of each component.

Overclockers are quite good but about 10 to 20% dearer than ebuyer.

Aria will also build a custom spec machine for you from any components you want and give you finance.

Absolutely don't use overclockers, a terrible company.

Here's the retail links I use:

I've been buying from www.overclockers.co.uk for 4 years and never had one problem. E-buyer took 2 months to send out an item after sending the wrong thing in the first place......damn e-ticket system!

You can't go wrong with Dabs though.

Watch out for compatibilty of components, otherwise you'll have a relatively cheap high spec PC that keeps crashing.

Good deals on aria, but customer service sucks. DABS gets my all round vote, next is ebuyer.

I'd second Mesh, we bought 2 pc's a couple of years ago, they've both been great. Keep an eye out for some of their special offer deals as there are some occasional bobby dazzlers !

Funny how we all recommend companies that have worked for us, personally I wouldn't use Dab because a past cockup where they labelled up two parcels wrongly and refused to send out my replacement for 6 weeks. I have a friend who has a Mesh who is having serious problems with their after service support, I too have had problems with Overclockers......

For me a recent issue with a duff Pentax camera was handled ok by ebuyer. Only took them just under two weeks! It was the time they had the item to when they tested it that took the time, new camera was with me next day.

Thumbs up

I have just bought a 'box' on ebay - I had been looking at upgrading my dad's PC components but got everything and more for well under budget...
