Performance of DVD formats

Yes.
One ( + ) is the older format and more compatible with DVD players and faster writing, the (-) is slower and less compatible.
Especially in RW formats.
{Hope I got the + and - the right way round! }

The - format is older; the + format was designed to be more compatible not less. Theres little to choose in practice but in a DVD video recorder + is totally superior. The DVD+R also leads the speed race and is available in dual layer format.....

Hate to stir things up guys but -r is way more compatible than +r (for video)
-r is estimnated to be 95% compatible with standalone DVD players where +r is 80-85% compatible
+r seems to be more reliable for PS2 whereas you can't do any better than G04 or G05 Ritek for the Xbox
Dual layer media is available in both + and - formats, as is 16x media
+r isn't any faster than -r
Fundamentally, it's your burners writing tables that dictate how quickly a disc will burn
Our tests yielded faster 12x DVD-R burns than we could achieve with 16x DVD+R
The gap is narrowing but -r discs are still about 20% cheaper to buy than +r (a lot to do with royalties)
To sum up:
For films; DVD-R (ideally Ritek)
For Xbox; DVD-R (ideally Ritek)
For PS2; DVD+R (again, ideally Ritek)
For Gamecube; 8cm GO4 Ritek DVD-R
For data/pics/mp3 etc; Cheapest discs you can find(+ or -), probably about 13p each

Yep -R is more compatible, just check out the DVD Forum.
Although sonys and toshibas seem to like +R's
Pioneers/NEC seem to write/play anything perfect + or -

I think people assume that +R is faster because the +R technology seems to be more advance.
+R Dual layer and +R 16x DVD disks have been on the market for quite a while.
there are no Dual Layer -R disks out yet and 16x -R has only just been released.
