Quick guide to networking
I need one!!
I have two XP machine, laptop and tower and want to link them up.
I have the cable and they are both capable, IE got the connections.
But, how do i do it?
Please help....... and make it simple.

Let's start with the basics.... Have you got a crossover cable? Or 2 straight through patch cables and a hub? If not, it's not going to work with what you've got.
If you have, just plug them together, go to network settings (right click on "my network places", and select properties), bring up the properties for the local area network, and set the computers with different IP adresses (eg 192.168.0.1 and .2).
Should be then be able to browse the network.

get to the IP settings - you'll have to click on "TCP/IP" to get into the last page......
