Default wireless router losing connection

got a netgear dg834g wireless router, connects automatically when i boot up, altho after half hour or so of use the laptop loses connection and a few seconds later reconnects again. the connection status says 'aquiring computer address' or something like that.

what would cause this prob ? other mates i know with wireless never seem to lose connection ?!

cheers

Get the latest firmware upgrade for a start. If that fails, starting fiddling with aerials.

I had the same, but my problem was a faulty USB wireless adapter I was using on the lappy. However by keeping the device cool, by hanging it over a desktop fan, it is now working fine again The signal must be getting blown further

im not sure much about firmware, if anyone could explain this please

also, its happened a couple of times 2day and ive noticed in the system tray that the network card icon just loses all signal for a second then gets it back. enough to log me out of msn etc and to get the net back i have to repair the connection. its a brand new laptop with an Intel Pro wireless LAN 2100 3A mini pci adaptor

signal coverage is excellent and I dont think its anything to do with the router !?

thanks

Go to the page for that router here. Download the 1.05.00 firmware and remember where you saved it. Now login to the router and go to Maintenance -> Router Upgrade. Browse to the location of the firmware you downloaded and click "Upload".

try turning off the facility for wireless router management - I've had the same thing on three different types of router, and the fix has been the same

ok, remote/wireless router management is currently disabled, and always has been. ive just installed the latest firmware upgrade, not sure what version i already had but its done now + i forgot to look before. So now its a case of wait and see what happens when im online for a while, if that doesnt cure it im not sure what will ?!!

thanks guys

If it doesn't work, then next thing is to look at how your various aerials are set, and whether router or computers are near anything which might effect the signal.

My wireless router has been 100% stable since I put sp2 on a few months back, used to drop out all the time prior to that.
