15" power mac g4 questions...
does anyone download and process their NEF images from their nikon D70 into one of these?
this would be my primary reason for a mac over an equivalent sized pc laptop, so it's quite important. according to the docs, iPhoto takes in nikon format without transposition to jpeg.
how are they to live with? robust?

As robust as any other laptop I guess. The guy opposite me at the moment was hit by a car on his bike once, he had two 15" G4 PowerBooks in his bag at the time. They both got hit pretty bad, his case is quite dented, but it still works fine. They can bend a bit if your force it.

wow, robust!
also, my 1.7ghz sony vaio lappie takes about a 40 seconds to load a full size NEF image and convert it to excellent quality jpeg in the nikon capture editor.
and... my laptop is hopeless at managing directories with 200+ 6mb jpegs in them. can the mac do this happily, ie; when i look in a directory, i want to see a bunch of thumbnails within 10 seconds, not 30 seconds!
if it can do this, then i'm a mac believer

I have a 1.25 ghz 15" G4 sitting here just about to be for sale (I'm not trying to sell it to you!). If you want to try out what you are trying to do on it then drop me a line, I'm in Bournemouth. Work from home so about most days except next Monday from 12 and all day Wednesday and Thursday. LOL.

Are you going to be buying new? You will need as much RAM as possible. I might be tempted to go for the faster disk if I were you, I did, and I have the 128meg graphics memory too.
