Default iTunes

Anyone know why iTunes keeps wanting to accept connections from the Internet?

Keep getting that bloody annoying warning from ZoneAlarm, despite saying Deny and Remember Next Time.

Should I be concerned?

TBH, you shouldn't be concerned.

Depending what version of ITunes you've got, it may need updating.

Music Store, update check, Radio listings, fetching CD tracks from CDDB, looking for shared music via Rendezvous/ZeroConf and probably a few more

... none of which would require it to accept incoming connections!

update check would require an incoming surely - how would it know what version to update from?

Same with most of class A's suggestions

The terminology is confusing. Incoming and outgoing are both bidirectional once established - the term only applies to how the connection is initiated.

If a service is listening for incoming connections, it means your computer is listening for new connections from absolutely anywhere in the world whereas an outgoing connection is where your computer initiates the connection and connects to a specific place on the internet (apple's website for example).

Hope that makes sense.

If you enable iTunes sharing then tcp port 3689 will be open and listening for connections.
