Default PC help needed please !!!

I have a laptop with a good spec, but just recently when I try to play music that I have stored on the hard drive, the music just stutters all the time plus the laptop takes ages to boot up.

Its ok if I put a music cd in though, it plays fine.

It happens in real one and windows media player. It's ****ing me right off !!!!!

I've checked for viruses, spyware ect

I run windows xp.

Sounds to me like it could be a knackered hard drive. Does it make any funny noises that it didn't before?

John.

Can you try playing an MP3 file from something other than off your hard drive.

It don't make any funny noises. It takes ages to boot up and I mean ages then when you try to play music on the hard drive it just stutters all the time. If you try and move the mouse cursor at this point it is really slow.

I took it to a company out of the yellow pages and they can't find out whats wrong with it

Go into your Control Panel by first clicking on the Start Button.

Then click on Settings, then Control Panel.

Then Double click on the System icon to open up the System Properties window.

Then click on the Device Manager tab at the top of the screen.

Now click on the plus sign [+] next to the Disk drives Icon to expand that section.

Double click on your IDE Disk Drive to display the Properties Window.

Then click on the Settings Tab located at the top of the screen.

Within the Options section, You will see a white box next to DMA.

Placing a check mark into this white box will enable the high speed DMA transfer setting.

Clearing an existing check mark from this white box will disable the DMA transfer setting.

Then click on the OK button at the bottom of the screen to save your settings.

And then click on OK to exit the System Properties Window.

Select Yes when Windows Prompts you to Restart your Computer now.

Repeat the above procedure on any additional Hard Drives you have in your system.
