Smile Time for a Re-install I guess.

Windows XP. Things are slowing down, going wrong etc etc so lets do a re-install. I've saved everything to disc that we want to keep and all the drivers and programs (inc licence key) are ready.
I'm happy to do the install but...How do I wipe everything? Never done it before and I guess it's not a very direct method. Or is it?
Thanks,
Andy.

Insert the xp disc and it suggests a format for you as one of the options. Simple

It'll be one of the best things you have done for ages I promise. It will fly compared to how it was before. Cheapest performance upgrade that you can do.

Yeah thats what I hope. I mean it's not a nightmare now but I can see there's enough junk slowing things down so better now than later. Also I may just stick to a rule of no more freeware. Nothing is free in this world. There's always a litle price to pay....

Make sure it's the proper format, not the "quick" version. Personally I usually use a 98SE boot disk with FORMAT.EXE on it and do FORMAT /U C:\ to be sure.

Not as good as a clean install, you then get rid of all the crap you've accumulated over the years.

It is easier if you are not confident abut what you are doing though.
