Lightbulb PC self build - a little PCI-E gotcha...

All,

Some of you will be aware of this, but hopefully this will benefit some of you.

Its seems ATXv2.0 doesn't mean you get a 24pin main power lead with all PSUs, this is only an issue with newer motherboards, as some require a 24pin (although it is alledged the 20pin version can be used).

I recently bought an Enermax 370W Noisetaker which is a 20pin only PSU, where as my Enermax 470W Noisetakers are 24pin (-> 20pin adaptor included). So, I'm removing the 470W from A8V build to put in my A8V-E build, and putting the 370W in my A8V.

So, check the requirements of the mobo power socket first and then the PSU you are thinking of buying. ATX2.0 obviously relates to power specs only , not pin-outs.

I used a 20 pin psu (X-Pro 460w) on my 24pin mobo no problems. I double checked on overclockers first as to which pins to leave empty. Mine where the left 4 pins when the retaining clip is at the top.

My Levicom PSU was a 20 pin, some do have 24 pin sockets also, with the option to remove the end 4 (just bend and seperate).

P1F - ah, I just can't find any destructions relating to the A8V-E

As I said, I've got a 24pin version to hand, well sort of, so no big issue.

TB - thats cool, levicom any good then?

Yep no mention in the instructions for my Asus A8N-sli either. Didnt really know of this issue until after I bought it all.

P1F

What a week, on-call has been a nightmare, two server builds I've been doing remotely in Hong Kong have take twice as long due to issues.. and this new PC build!

Anyhow, I assumed the 370w would be the same as the 470, but alas no.
I've just removed the 470 from my 3500/A8V/9800pro set-up and put in the 3500/A8V-E/6600GT, just warming up the mobo...

I'm now gonna put the 370w in the 3500/A8V/9800pro.

So how is your build comng on? From what I can tell the A8V-E is the same mobo with out NF4 / SLI as the A8N! its got all the markings for the NF4 stuff it seems.
