Default Malware and spyware people should be..

decapitated and have their bits dipped in salt. Man, its just taken me a day and a half to get rid of some real real nasty browser jackers and popup **** - "only the best" Its a right ******* because it pulls all sorts of tricks to re install itself and everything.

It wouldnt be so bad if it was above board and had an uninstall program but its bloody obvious that they wanted it to stay there.

Thank god for Firefox, never usually get this crap, thats why it took me so long to remove it

They really do need a good kicking (to death) in my opinion.

Can't see why they're not classed as a virus (trojan, worm or whatever) TBH - they're no less annoying...

Aye - its a new variation on CWS (CoolWebSearch) which is just a little sod to get rid of. CWSShredder is the only tool I have confidence in that gets rid of this once and for all.

Some of these suckers hook into part of the registry away from the usual HKLM\Run and thus are much harder to track down. The exact key escapes me now though.

Also note that there is a variant of the Cool Web Search trojan which automatically kills some anti-spyware applications (including CWShredder) when they run.

It's one for loading a DLL very early in the boot process - I'll look it up at some point

Because they do more than infect and replicate. It's the law, if we - McAfee - call them Viruses we get taken to court. A lot of them have licence agreements, which makes things worse. That's not to say that you agreed to the licence, but could you prove in court that you didn't see it?

Sounds like I have the same spyware/jacker type thing. My Sygate firewall didnt even stop the little f****r. Going to run CWSSHREDDER tonight to see if I can sort it out. It's so annoying, Sygate flashes up that my homepage has been changed and I have to restore it every 5 minutes.

the MS one did pick up about 120 pieces of normal spyware, and dealt with it, but not this CWS turd.

Problem is the user isnt the worlds best so give it a week and it will be infected again.
