Question Anone modded their Sky+ box

Heard from a reliable source that it's a simple task of fitting a larger IDE HDD to the Sky+ box to increase the recording time...has anyone tried it?

Apparantly a power cycle and a few button presses on boot starts off a software download to prepare the new HDD so it can be used. Was gonna give it a go but wondered if anyone else has tried 1st

Hello

I upgraded mine. Easy. In fact, a lot easier than the X-box.

Steve.

Done mine. Piece of cake and still working.

The dreaded 17min bug appeared on mine thought after filling it to 80%. Reformated from Sky box and ok again now. Think it happened when tried to record 2 programs whilst watching a 3rd and hit button to cancel one of the recordings.

There's a site somewhere with a table of HDD which are known to work. I used a 120GB Maxtor - a 6Y120P0 I think ?

Had to put it into a PC first to switch off write checking (this can cause problems if its enabled and you're working it hard i.e. recording 2 programs and watching a 3rd back) and put it into silent mode (as some of the Maxtors can be quiet noisey). Drive recommendations may have changed since I done mine so it's worth checking around for the web site I mentioned above.

Cheers

Mark

120mb Maxtor in mine and fitted it straight in, no messing around installing in a PC first!
