Help, running w98, as far as I can see pc is operating all okay, but have just noticed that for some reason whilst on ebay earlier today I tried to contact a seller ref a particular auction, using the ask seller a question feature, went to enter text into the little box and pc keeps freezing ?? happens all the time every time.

tried turning the pc of and then back on again, same problem, mate off mine has tried the same thing on his pc and manages to write the question to this same seller without a problem.

running zone alarm and nortin a/v but have never had this problem before and nothing changed with pc settings etc.

any ideas ??

Not without more information..

• What web browser are you using?
• Have you got all the latest windows updates installed?
• Can you enter text into fields ok on other web sites or is it just ebay?
• Have you tried using Firefox instead of internet explorer?

 

How about running a de-frag?????????
Is it low on memory????????
What size is the memory?
How many films/vids you got on it,ie, large files???
My ole buddy will be round later, il ask him as hes the dogs gonads when it comes to pc probs

 

Saying that about windows updates, i had update service pack 2 on my old machine, it kept locking up even on boot. I removed it and it was fine.
A mate had the same prob too!!!!

I haven't got a clue either. Put it down to ebay in the end

Cheers guys, seems strange as it has only started acting up this week with regards this ask seller a question problem ??!!

I`ve tonight done a few clean ups - spyware / evidence elimantor / windows updates but still same problem.

as I say running w98 with ie5. have had no probelms up till now.
must be down to ebay ??!! as I say as soon as you go to enter text into the little box the pc will just freeze up ??

anyone any other ideas to try ???

only happens with ebay, any other site can enter text okay.

 

It might be that the ebay website is geared up for ie6, not ie5 (that's a pretty old browser these days), and it wouldn't be the first time that a big site like that had somewhat dubious coding standards....

 

Okay guys will try the ie6 option, anyone advise me where I can download this ie6 latest version ?? also is it okay to use with my w98 operating systmn ??

one final thing ??!! when I click on something I want to download before it opens my windows media player ??!! so I will need to right click the mouse and press what button ?? to get the download open with option ??

when I have this option what do I need choose to open it with when given the choice ??
