Default Network Documentation

Hi,

My disatation is producing the Network documentation for the Uni.

Now i know nearly all there is to know about it now. But im unsure how to write it up professionally.

Im hopeing a few industry guys here have, and i could see a docuemented network!! it would really help me tons!

The best way is to use MS Visio to create logical diagrams of the network topology. Back this info up with hardware specs and software config information.

I think you'll struggle to get anyone to show you their network diagrams because of security issues..... you certainly ain't seeing mine!

Ive done all the logical maps of the topology, its the hard spec software etc i dont know how to write up really!!

Most companies have an "asset database" as part of their documentation. Usually in excel, access or sql.

My network documentation usually consists of lots of Visio diagrams and spreadsheets for HW, SW, IP Addressing.

For extra points encrypt anything containing sensitive data. ie passwords, firewall policies etc....
