AsRock K8 Como board opinions
I will be building a new PC for my parents in the next month or so and am considering using this board as the basis-
http://www.asrock.com/product/product_k8_combo-z.htm
It offers the option of using both Socket 754/Socket 939 AMD platform, so is IMO a good basis for a upgradeable system.
I've been more than happy with the ASUS builds I have undertaken and understand that AsRock is some form of budget subsidary to them.
Anyone have good or otherwise experiences of these boards?
Cheers

AsRock are probably the second worst maker of boards after ECS - although nowhere near that bad. I'm told that they were formed when the Asus technical team jumped ship and started their own company - but that doesn't mean I recommend them: in fact, exactly the opposite.
As for the idea of a hybrid socket 754/939 - OW! Avoid. The price of good 939 boards is reasonable, and there is simply no reason on earth to buy 754 unless you are trying to out-cheap Scrooge. Just get a low-end 939 and upgrade later if necessary.

Contrary to Meridians opinion, i can't see past Asrock mobos.
There was a problem with the first K8 combo boards where one of the capacitors was overheating but this was sharply addressed and the replacements are tip-top.
You're getting a fair bit for under £60 too (onboard LAN, plenty USB's, 7.1 audio etc)
The only Asrock board i've had problems with was the K7 upgrade.
Buy with confidence.
