anone got wireless cable broadband ?
just want to know if I can disconnect the wireless netgear box and instead, plug in an normal netgear broadband router ?
Is the cable modem in the set top box ? If so, can this actually be plugged into a router - tried tonight but with no joy. Do I have to ask the cable broadband provider to add the router's MAC address to their list so they can enable it at their end ?

daz, im guessing your cable may have a static ip address (not sure though) in which case the router may need a config of some sort.
dont quote me on this...
can you log into the wireless router and check the settings??

nah, the wireless router has been hacked by TeleWest to stop people turning on DHCP etc, so in effect its just a wireless access point for the wireless usb nic.
I wonder if its worth ringing them and asking them to add the MAC address of the new router ?

If it's Telewest Blueyonder you've got, you don't need to tell them the MAC address. However if you're connecting up a device with a different network card, you'll probably need to cut off the power to the Broadband modem for a couple of minutes. Don't just press the off button, actually pull the power lead out. Connect your other device, wait 2 minutes then put the power lead back in.
