Both your computers need network cards, from there you need either a xover network cable or a hub and use the internet connection sharing with xp.
Or you can use a adsl router with a 4 port hub built in, I would recommend the US Robotics router because this one works. Some of the other routers including Dlink and such like crash.

you can have a server way which you would need a hub and 2 parellel rj45 cable or you can have computer to computer but you would need a crossover cable, either way once its all connected just use windows network wizard you need to set the computer with the broadband as the server with inter net and then use the network wizzard on the other computer with out the internet to use the other computer with internet as your internet point.

The best way (not the cheapest and not the simplest, maybe) is to:
- Change the router to one with an Ethernet connector
- Get a 4-way (or greater) 100Mb/s switch - £15 on eBay
- Plug the router and the two PCs into the switch
- Get a Print server, either USB or parallel depending on your printer e.g. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...741159330&rd=1
- Plug the print server into the hub
Both PC's then have an (effectively, dedicated) Internet connection, both can access the printer independent of the other and if you've got, say an eight port switch, you can plug in extra PCs or laptops or a wireless access point (to allow multiple other PCs/laptops to wirelessly access the Internet and the printer) or a PS/2, as easy as pie.
I've never had much luck with sharing a printer and/or Internet connections (especially the latter) from one of the PCs - and it normally means you have to have them both switched on to do anything useful, even if you're not actually using them both
One the other hand, and if you put all your eggs in one basket, something like this looks the business - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...151008024&rd=1 - and if it came from a reputable company (Linksys, D-Link, Belkin etc) it would be even better!
