Default FAT file system recovery tools

Hi,

I have a Compact Flash card full of photos which suffered corruption. I have not reformatted the drive, but have used CHKDSK /f to try to repair it. This has made the volume readable again, but none of the data is visable and the full capacity of the drive is listed as free space.

What FAT16 recovery/undelete tools would you use to try and recover the data? Desktop OS is Windows XP Pro, but I could boot DOS from a floppy. Failing that, has anyone used a data recovery company and if so, who would you recommend. The photos are quite valuable to me so I don't mind paying out to get them back.

Cheers!
Alex

Try this, download the demo and see if it sees your files.

Cheers guys; for the time being I have had good success with OnTrack EasyRecovery. I had to use the Raw Recovery mode which has managed to salvage most of the files, but a few are still "fragmented" across multiple parts. I might have to get the hex editor out.

I will try the other products that you've suggested and see if they can recover some more complete files.

I'm much more positive than when I first posted though
