For some bizarre reason, my PC has stopped all sounds. The speakers and wires are all present and correct and all volumes are turned up and un muted.

C'mon, give us a laugh: what was it? My personal best was getting a shop to replace under warranty a pair of speakers that it turned out I'd plugged into the wrong sound card output. They were replaced with better ones too....
