In preparation for BB next month ( 8th DECEMBER ) bought a SW Soho2 off eBay

Office uses SW products and want to use the direct VPN capability, so want to upgrade to this. How/where I go about this?


What major differences between the Soho2 & the Tele3/TZ170? Other than the other 2 seem to come with VPN clients!

I will of course register & update firmwear etc when I get BB.

Have you checked to see if the box already has VPN enabled ? Which firmware is it running ?

The list price for a VPN upgrade to a Soho3 (which would work on a Soho2 as well) is.........£340 +VAT......

The Soho2 is a 'Generation 2" device and is a slower version of the Tele3/Soho3 which where/are Generation 3 devices (surprise !)

The TZ170 is a very different beast and is a Gen 4 device running SonicOS standard or enhanced. SonicWALL have changed the way they license these things and have included VPN capabilities in all the TZ170s (10, 25 or Unlimited) and they now restrict it on the number of VPN tunnels.

Thanks m8 - just awaiting for it to turn up (being eBay if it does...) so will check when I get. I think that it won't.

But £340 +VAT jeepers creepers - almost better buying a new TZ with them already in!

However, at least I will be able to run VPN through it, so maybe not as elegant/secure but will do the job.

Firmware updates a "pay for" thing as well?

You should find that the firmware was a life time upgrade....You need to get it registered on a mysonicwall.com account. EMail me if you have a problem...

If you ever place that order for the Pro-3060 I might be able to sort you one out for home.....maybe.....
