Default Laptop Harddrive

Sick of the 40gb effort in at the minute. Got a few questions
Im competent with desktops but

1) how easys lappy HD to install? phyiscally
2) will my software see the new hard drive
3) are they 2.5"?
4) who sells em?

Hello

It depends on the laptop. If you want an additional hard drive, then you normally have to buy some sort of caddy that fits in the CD/DVD bay and the hard drive slips in there.

Besides that, they are the same as any other hard drive. Easy to install, and you can buy them from almost anywhere. Try ebuyer or dabs. Or as you know, I can buy you one here (America). Have a look at http://www.outpost.com, there is a Frys near me here in Atlanta.

Just getting one of these for my ibook http://www.europc.co.uk/bargainbuys3...refId=dealtime. ibook looks like a bit of a pain to upgrade but all the laptops I have done have been very easy.

Don't forget to cross reference the height of the replacement drive with the existing HD. Some laptops don't have a very tall HD compartment and the thicker drives won't fit.

I've got a USB2 disk and there isn't much in it when compared to my IDE disks

The speed is comparable, it just depends whether you wish to lug around another piece of equipment.
