Default Can you get a really long RJ11 cable ?

All

Just wondered as I need a modem cable thats about 25feet long, & the longest at PC world is 15ft
I am also struggling to find an extendor (ie to connect 2x15ft cables together)
Does the signal degrade if extended - hence why I can't find one ?

Anyone know where I can get a really long cable ?

Can't you make one? I normally make my own RJ45 cables.

Sorry all - found one - though question remains - does the length degrade the signal quality or does it not matter ?

It does degrade but I can't remember the exact distance. I know that CAT 5 cable has a limit of about 100 meters.

It all depends on what modular cable you use. RJ11 is just the name for the type of connector. It doesn't specifiy any rating of cable. Likewise, RJ45 is the connector but you could use CAT5, CAT5e or CAT6 cable.

In the past, I've use modular cable close to 500m in Unix environments where modular cable and RJ11 connectors were use to install remote serial printers.

I've heard references to 10m being about the maximum recommended length in ADSL applications in the home.

My ADSL comes upstairs via about 15m of standard phone extension and my download speed is about 460 for a nominal 512. AFAIK that's about as fast as most 512 services are. If that's worth anything...

Thats great - thanks all for the replies.
I got myself 10m of cable so judging by the above I should't lose any speed on my connection.
