Is it a real hub or some DSL router/modem thing? A hub just repeats packets, doesn't run a DHCP server so it won't give you an address.

The DSL router may have a 'first time setup' procedure for you to follow so you can configure it using your web browser, nothing like that in the manual?

I would guess you are going to need to go to the routers setup page, sometimes 192.168.0.1, in Internet Explorer and get the thing configured properly.
