Firefox, Thuderbird & Openoffice - Hello!
MS Office, IE & Outlook - good bye.
I'm going to trial them for a month or so to see how I get on.
I'm not a heavy user of office, or outlook - probabily typical of most workers in the UK. I knock up the odd doc * spreadsheet now and then but nothing heavy.
I'll report back later.

So far. . .
Thunderbird imported all my mail settings.
Firefox installed effortlessly and imported IE settings.
Adblock (plugin) for firefox is amazing. (sorry ads.scoobynet)
Openoffice instaled ok. Some compatability with some of my more complicated spreadsheets. You can save as a PDF!!! That's another license I don't need!

I've trialled Firefox at work instead of IE and was not overly impressed, apart from the fact it's free of course
It seemed to take longer than IE to open images on sites and quite frequently stopped loading pages, scoobynet for one, half way through. I will probably have another go with it in a couple of months time to see how well it does.
If I were implementing an office suite from scratch I would be very tempted to use OpenOffice as it seems to do all the right things. Trouble is, as with all non MS applications, is finding trainers for the pond life we employ

Firefox works in a slightly different way to IE and it does appear to load pages slightly differently too. I've not noticed any problems with Scoobynet and Firefox (it is now my default browser). I suspect that this has more to do with the usage levels on Scoobynet rather than Firefox. Firefox is still only officially at version 1.0 so it is going to take time for its use and acceptance to spread.
It has been rumoured that Google are also about to release their own browser. I reckon that and Firefox are the future for browsers.

the addblocker tool is fantastic.
You simply right click on an image or Iframe and select addblock. - and images & iframes gone for good!
If a flash sequence is displayed, adblock puts a button at the bottom of it - click and it's gone!
No more google advertising, no more popups, not more in-page adverts
