Best Way of Connecting a Sony DV recorder to a PC
Anyone messed about with transferring a video from a digital video camera to a PC. Do I just need a firewire cable or do I need other stuff too. Sony manual is ****e and as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

Providing its a modern camcorder it will use digital format.
PC's use digital format, so all you need is the "socket " to plug your camcorder into your PC. You're quite right - just get a firewire card from PC World or online at say www.dabs.com

Firewire card can be had for around £10. Should come with a cable too.
Then you need some software to capture the video from the video camera onto your PC. XP comes with MovieMaker or you could use something like Pinnacle Studio or Adobe Premier.
