Can you make MP3's smaller (REALLY!)
Need to waz enough music onto my P900 phone for a week's hols. Most of my MP3's are 128Kbsec which is great for the home HiFi but will quickly fill up my 2 X 128Mb mem cards.
Anyway to reduce filesize on existing MP3's?
Cheers

Yep, just use CDex of one of the millions of audio transcoding products out there. You will have to reduce the bitrate to something that sounds acceptable on your phone, plus you could always trim the files down a bit if they are for ringtones.
or upgrade to P910 firmware then there is no limit on the size of your sd card. sony really shafted us by saying 128mb was the biggest sd card we could use in our P900. they crippled their P900s with the symbian OS.
To make mp3 smaller then encode them at 64khz (really only good for speech). 96khz encoding is really the minimum you need for music. it will reduce the mp3 sizes but not by much.
cheers
big sinky

All very interesting & thanks. Annoyingly I already have a mem stick duo 256Mb but the phone doesnt recognise it [thankfully it fits the Sony dig cam). Need to go to a service centre for a firmware upgrade dont I?
Doubly annoying as those 128 cards are on the way from NY in an airmail envelope [cheap enough at £21 each though!). Cheers
