Radeon 9800 Pro hangs..
ok, it works 100% fine when I run doom3 or far cry on standard settings, when I run the games on high detail, both games crash after abou5 5 or 10 minutes.
I am assuming it's a heat problem, so other than adding extra case fans to extract the heat, any ideas on how to fix the problem ?
It's a 9800 pro 128Mb running a 128mb aperture size.. ??
Anyway to see what temp the card is at ?

Nope, other than a DIY effort AFAIK.
Have you got any system/CPU temp monitoring as well?
Are you running stock cooling on the video card or any extra?
Could well be heat issues. I had a similar problem, one of which I think was caused by video ram heatsinks (didn't come with card). Once I took them off, it actually ran better. Think it was down to the sticky pad not being a very good heat conductor

Hmmm, case temps seem OK, and CPU seems OK (so not too much extra heat there).
Could be stock cooling on the GPU. I changed over to a Vantec Iceberg for my 9700 Pro after my stock fan got too noisy. The Arctic Coolers are supposed to be good, but effectively take up the slot next to the video card.
Might be worth investing in one of them as they are only around 10-15 quid. The sort of ones on here are supposed to be good (the sort of ones at the top of the page). Depends if you have the PCI slot free though next to the video card and if you can afford to lose it.

I would have thought a PSU issue would have exhibited it more frequently than just under really heavy load such as D3 with all the settings on? Still, 10 or so quid's a cheaper option to start

I have the same card in my new SFF Shuttle PC with no probs (other than tachycardia from Doom3) My Athlon 3200 CPU runs a lot hotter at 59 degrees - whether that is good or bad I do not know as it didnt give a guide on the packaging!

I've got £80's worth of Antec PSU and it can easily handle the power requirements (yes it is plugged directly into the vid card)
The crash is not a blue screen but I get screen corruption then a hang. I sometimes get the message that "the VPU has stopped responding"..
.. I'm going to get an updated cooling fan for it..
