Question cheap places for IPods.......

Kinda looking into an Ipod for the car and then for holiday. But not really sure what size to go for.

20 or 40 Gig...... seems an awful lot of storage space for MP3s (of which I treat with the contempt they deserve, however, don't want to take loadsa CDs on holiday)

where are some good places for deals on IPods - best price at the moment etc?

Is it worth hanging on for the time being?

Thanks,

Dan

They are all pretty much the same price everywhere I'm afraid mate. You may get a little discount on an 3rd gen but I think that the best price you will see is the standard retail of £210 - £220 for the 4th generation 20 GB.

It's a good time to buy as they have only just released the 4th gen, so it won't be getting updated for a while yet, not to mention the fact that its highly unlikely you would buy one then see it a week later for 20% less.

I love my 20gig and hold just over 3000 tracks on it and have a good space left to use as a HD to move stuff from machine to machine quickly

Got mine direct from Apple £219 as no one else was offering any substantial savings. Very quick delivery as well.

Scooby,

Just hang on till tomorrow, the HP branded iPod is going to be announced today, there is a very (very, very) small chance it might undercut the normal iPod.

This announcement wasn't expected for a while yet but HP are keen to release it asap.

It is allegedly identical to the normal iPod, although it will be branded as a HP product and will most likely be blue, but like I say there is a very slim chance it might be cheaper.

The end of the day will tell

Apple control the retail pricing and reseller discount very closely. You'll be very lucky to get a excellent discount. My Brother works for a large reseller and they only get around 3-5% margin on any Apple products.

Your best bet is abroad or through Duty Free at an airport. I was in Dubai last week, but didn't have time to look for one before I caught my connecting flight

OK - started buying accessories, so it's gonna happen!!! (does anybody esle do that to make themselves buy the thing, or is it just me?

However, my understanding is that there is a nice HD in it - looking at a 20Gig jobby.

SO, are there any options for fettling with them - a la XBox maybe at some stage installing a bigger HD, extra software etc.....

Can it be done?

You can run Linux off it apparently I think that the 4th gen has more stuff in it than Apple are letting on so there might be some cool stuff in the future.

Not sure about many mods though although there are a few. In fact, note all hardware technical people please PM me as I have an idea

Mark up on a 20Gb ipod is under a tenner so little room for discounts with Apples generous margins NOT.

Do expect to see some larger iPods in the near future. Don't forget the keynote speach next week but I doubt prices will change much ....yet.

We are seeing competetive products such as the iRiver increasing in sales so maybe Apple will fight back to wipe out the competitors ??

YOu can get cheaper iPods as I know they can be bought from Asia at a favourable price and due to the exhange rate can we purchased a bit cheaper but might be more hassle than its worth.

I've got a 20Gb one lying here that I've not used for months. Won it as a prize and only used is half a dozen times. Like you say , great for using in the car so need to get a car kit.

Thumbs up

Get yourself an Iriver H140 from Amazon for £249 better than an Ipod thingy.

yeh - got hold of an ITrip off ebay

So, now I'm just hunting around for an IPod. Looked at the others, but
(a) I'm a Mac-head, so I want the same thing
(b) I'm a snob

Just biding my time now
