Default Xbox and CD-R/RW

Maybe this is in the xbox instruction guide, but don't recall seeing it, and I assume it's some copy protection thing, but I can't seem to be able to play music from my own burnt cd's. Is there any way round this?

Assume mod chip might do this, but not sure. It's a tad anoying to say the least, was all ready to have a rather splendid project gotham soundtrack, but I'd have to go through my collection of CD's to build the same, and some tracks I know are on cd's that are back home in blighty, so it'd be hard to get them

XBox hates CDrs. You have to use CDRW.
Or better still, network it to the PC and run the music through XBox Media Centre....

If you have the Samsung DVD drive in your XBox then you can play most CD-R's. The Philips drive is a bit more picky and the Thompson drive even more so.

Open it up and plug a PC CD-Rom drive in, you'll need a Y-Splitter power cable but the rest of the connections are the same

ahhhhhh, will try CDRW and see what the gameplan is. Can't do the link to PC thing as I don't have a PC and it's a bit of overkill just to get a PGR2 soundtrack
