USB 2.0 Problems
I installed WinXP SP1 on my PC the other day but every time I plug in my USB printer (Epson CX6400 USB2.0) a warning pops up saying something like "A Hi-speed device has been plugged into a non Hi-speed usb hub". My motherboard has 4 USB2.0 ports (MSI KT3 Ultra ARU), and it looks like everything is OK in device manager.
The only thing I found in Microsoft KB says to install SP1 but I have that already, oh and a way to stop the warning being displayed I tried deleting the USB devices from device manager but that did not help.
Anyone able to help me??

According to the MSI website the KT3 Ultra ARU has four onboard USB 1.1 ports and four USB 2.0 ports via optional external bracket. Are you plugging the printer into one of the 1.1 ports?

I am plugging the printer into the USB2.0 ports on the (optional) external bracket.
Is there any way to find out if the ports are actually operating on USB1.1 or USB2.0 to check that the XP USB drivers are correctly identifying the motherboard hardware.

I would check that 2.0 is enabled in your bios first, then update the USB drivers for your MB
Also, Open Device Manager and expand the Universal Serial Bus section. There should be an “Enhanced” USB host controller present.

IIRC it's something to do with SP1 not fully supporting USB 2.0. I had one with a VIA chipset and it point blank refused to work, regardless of driver upgrades etc. Changed it to one with a different chipset (can't recall which one right now) and it works fine.

I'll check the bois when I get home, I'm sure it was set to all ports enabled but I'll definatey check that. Can't remember seeing an Enhanced USB driver listing in device manager will also check that.
I thought that all of the USB port drivers were built into XP, I didn't see any specific drivers on the MB drivers list, I will check that again.

Ok I checked the BIOS and the USB Controller is set to "all ports" (options Off,USB1, USB2, all ports)
Device Manager has the following USB devices listed:
NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller (B1)
NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller
NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
The IC on the MB next to the USB headers is a NEC one, I have no idea why there is also VIA controllers listed, but the MB does have a VIA chipset.
