PS2 won't play some discs

My son's PS2. He has 3 games, all pukka UK games, that've stopped loading. He borrowed an identical game to one of the one's that won't play from a mate of his and it works fine - any ideas?

I wouldn't worry too much about replacing the lazer, cleaning it has always done the trick for me.

Use a cotten wool bud and some Isopropanyl (sp?) alcohol.
