Question Cisco Question

Question, is it possible to monitor how much bandwidth/usage individual interfaces are using, we have multiple fastethernet interfaces redirecting traffic to different sources, and i i want to find out how much performance each is using.

As long as it's SNMP enabled then sure, you can grab a whole lot more metrics than just interface usage too.

It appears we have Solarwinds, so i have been playing with this and using the bandwidth measurement tool. Any opinions on this.

I always, without fail, use MRTG, very easy to set up and works well, more configurable than you'll ever need but easy enough to use as a basic tool.

MRTG is nice, I've been using SNIPS a lot for monitoring a few thousand machines simultaneously. It uses RRDtool too and has a Perl API for writing your own monitors.

Cacti is my personal favourite - uses RDDTool for data storage / graphing with a very nice Web GUI for setup . Very customisable aswell - but has standard interface stats out of the box.

One of the best bits of free software I've ever seen. I prefer it to the multimillion pound Network Health box we use for customer reports.
