It needs a board installing into the laptop, usually accessed through a little flat/door on the bottom. With most it's a simple DIY job.

Post details of your laptop (Make/Model etc) and someone should be able to point you at places to get it from.

from my recent experience.....

check what you got and match it EXACTLY!!

I got a none matched 256 stick from me local and it seeemed OK, but after 10 mins of surfing, me lappy kept crashing.... out it came and straight back to the shop..... good guys, they took it back....

had a look at the RAM stick and ordered a matching one from good old ebuyer...

fitted it meself and hey presto 512 in me laptop.......... cool and the gang for some £35

cheers

Name your Laptop Make/Model

Easiest and in my expereince best memory to go for is Crucial.
www.crucial.com/uk

A simple step by step page guide there on choosing the right ram.

Installing it is a doddle. Check out what you have in there at the moment, as there might not be a free expansion slot. In which case, you'll have to remove the exsisting memory, and put in a larger one.

I'll second crucial - far cheaper than dell.

256mb SDRAM dimm from dell = £71
256mb SDRAM dimm from crucial = £28

I had to remove floppy drive from my lappy to get access to slot, but it's only 1 screw and a clip or 2 to remove. Piece of cake.
