Networking with XP Home
Got a lappy with XP Home and a PC with Win2kPro linking by wireless via a Linksys 54G ADSL router. I'm trying to share the printer on the lappy. Both have ips in the same range ie 192.168.1.x. Both can ping the router neither can ping the other 'puter. Net view is showing jack in both directions even tho' they're both in the same workgroup.
Any ideas why this ain't working? Is it that XP Home's networking is restricted or is there something in the router stopping the 2 'talking'? Or am I missing something dead obvious?
TIA
MArk

Have you put both computers in the same workgroup ? If you have it may be a firewall blocking the connection. If so you need to allow local connections or the IP address in question.

Both in same workgroup, lappy not running ICF, PC running Zonealarm. Tried it with ZA shut down still good. Nothing in ZA logs either.

I've got three pcs (plus a laptop over the wireless connection) running a combination of XP Home and Pro, talking to each other at home. However, I gave up trying to get it working using tcpip (although I expect I could of get it working if I could be bothered).
I "think" that to get it working over tcp, you need a domain with a nameserver etc on the network, and netbios enabled for the tcp connections. I may be talking rubbish though
Instead, I installed the NWLink IPX/SPX protocol on each machine and they could instantly see each other with no problems. Might be worth a try....

Thanks for that. I've got an XP Pro lappy and a win2k PC at home that are wireless and connect just fine; TCPIP and all. I have a nagging doubt that XP Home's networking stuff actually networks.
