Getting a laptop on-line (broadband)

I got my laptop (Advent 7006 ) on Broadband by just plugging in the phone jack.AOL sent me the ADSL modem with the AOL9 disk with the instructions to follow.I dont think you need any sorta card.

If the ADSL modem connects to the laptop by USB, you MUST install the drivers for the modem BEFORE plugging the modem into the laptop for the first time.
Stick the CD in the drive, run it (if it doesn't auto-run) and follow the instructions - pretty straightforward really. Plug modem in when prompted.

you are better off getting a "all-in-one" adsl modem router with 4-port switch. cost you about £30. so the adsl modem will connect from the wall telephone line, and your laptop and any other PCs connect to the adsl modem. you will need a network card for the laptop and/or PCs to connect to the adsl modem.
