Question FTP server Mac OSX

Anyone have any good, clear instructions on how to set up FTP users on OSX.

What I want to acheive is a where a user logins in they are unable to navigate back up through the file system.

Any help very gratefully received, I've had enough of it today...

I would ideally like to avoid having to compile ftp software such as proftpd and similar.

Rich

It should be easy, although I've not tried it personally.

System Preferences -> Sharing -> FTP Access

Create your user accounts in Accounts. You can then log in with the short account name and password. As they're Standard accounts and not Admin, users will only see their Home folder and won't be able to navigate upwards.

Cheers,
Alex

Alex, you would think that was true but it isn't, I am able to navigate all round the disk...
Anyone, I've installed some 3rd party FTp s/w now which is working a treat.

Rich,
Are we talking about Mac OS X Client or Mac OS X Server?

I've just tried the following on OS X Client

Made a new 'standard' account in Accounts. Enabled 'ftp access' in Sharing.

I go to another mac, FTP onto my mac, login as the 'standard' account and then the only folder I have access to is the 'home' folder of that standard account.

That's the way I thought it would work. Are you sure you were trying to log in using a Standard not Admin account Rich? Don't take that the wrong way, it's just got me puzzled....
