Default iTunes and iPod

Questions, questions!

At the moment I'm looking into buying a 20GB iPod and started using iTunes to get a feel for things. Only problem is that when I try to record the genuine CDs I own, iTunes gets to the last track and never finishes recording it which is pretty annoying!
If anyone has experienced this problem I would really appreciate a solution.

Secondly with the iPod, I'd like to know more specific things, for instance how easy is it to transfer files that aren’t music onto it for moving around etc.
Also I've heard about iTrip but they don't seem to ship to the UK? So if any S'netters have an iPod with iTrip I'd be interested in finding out how you got hold of it or any alternative methods of getting it shipped.

All comments welcome including iRiver etc.

have you had a look on here http://www.ipodlounge.com/ really informative, maybe you need an update or patch for the itunes, i had to update mine the other week, although i have the ipod mini. I had a problem with itunes ripping a CD, but it turns out its the CD that is protected grrr.

to add, sorry cant help you out with the data transfer part as the mini doesnt do that. I think though that its just like using a USB pen

also, if you search NSR for IPOD there are quite a few threads out there.

Have iPod, iTrip and iTunes. Never had a problem with iTunes ripping from original CDs so can't really offer much in the way of help there except to suggest that you download the latest version. I bought iTrip from a shop in Geneva and it was clearly marked on it that it wasn't for use in Switzerland or France...but it works fine...if you accept the sound quality isn't super-duper. I can get you one and mail it to you if you want...or sell you mine as I'm not really using it much.

For transferring files, I'm about to buy either the Delkin USB Bridge or Belkin Media Reader so I can copy images off my 1GB compactflash card to my iPod when I'm on holiday (rather than lugging a laptop around).

Info on the Delkin is here http://www.delkin.com/delkin_products_usb_bridge.html

Info on the Belkin is here http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...More=T7418LL/A

Hope this helps.

File transfer on the iPod is simple, it should show up as a disk in Explorer, which you can then simply drag files to and from.

I haven't experienced the problem you are talking about with the CD ripping but a possible solution are:

The CD is scratched to a point where iTunes is struggling to get the data.
If this is the case turn on error correction in the importing tab in preferences.

I have an iTrip and if you find a frequency where there isn't much else in your area, then its a great gadget.

You chose the frequency. If I were to use mine I'd use 90.2 as apparently it works pretty much anywhere.

The default is 87.9 but you can set it to virtually anything. Even broadcast over Radio One if you want

My iTrip came from eBay. Plenty of chaps shipping them over from the States. I also run mine at 90.2.

SQ is a little lacking through the iTrip in the car however. I'm acutally back on CD's atm.

Erm, can't think of another way to put it The file browser it may show up as a "drive" which you can then copy over too.
