Default Buying a new PC

Hello

I am off to America again tomorrow, and I think it's about time to replace my aging AMD 1.4 computer.

I was just going to buy a motherboard, processor and possibly case and assemble it myself. Can anyone tell me the going speed for the processor and what I should expect to pay (in pounds so I can see if I'm getting a good deal)?

Note that I am not really interested in "cutting edge" as just having had another baby I can't afford such things anymore!

Thanks for your help,

Steve.

I got a P4 3.0Ghz, 512 MB, 80 GB HD, 128MB 9200SE Radeon Graphics & TV Out, DVD RW, DVD ROM, XP, MS Works etc for 350 inc VAT - so don't pay too much (ok it was grade 2, but fully sorted by manufacturer and 6 months warranty). There are deals to be had so just keep your eye open

Hello

Yes, I am back off to San Francisco.

I did spend two days in Washington earlier in the month, but was too shattered to go and look for things to buy!

Thanks for your help, so about £100ish for a good processor?

Steve.

Depends:

a) What are you using it for? If it's just browsing/mail/WP then that's too much. If it's gaming, the more the better.

b) Are you planning on overclocking? If so, you could save and make up the performance with tweaking.
