got all the cables btw
when connecting the drive as is to the parellel port on the laptop works ok so its not using power is it??? so if i do the same on a pc....

think it does use power, just not very much - I know you can't use the CD drive on that cable because of the power problem
I havn't got any cd drives on me this weekend, I will try at work on Monday if you havn't had a answer
