Upgrading a laptop
Want to upgrade my Dell Inspiron 8200 before Half Life 2 appears - but how easy are laptops to upgrade?
Current config:
Pentium 4 1.8GHz
512 MB SDRAM
60GB HDD
64MB GeForce 4
Win XP Pro
RAM can be upgraded to 1GB, but will that make that much difference?
advice appreciated.

Generally laptops are alot more difficult to upgrade as they are so small. Have you contacted Dell tech support.
The 8200's are quite new, so you could be effecting the warranty if you take it to somewhere to upgrade.

new pc is prefered option - but methinks spending cash on new toy would probably mean other half cancelling wedding.

No point trying to upgrade a laptop. The only things you can really do is Memory/Hard Drive / Optical Drive and if you dont mind ripping the casing to bits, the CPU but only to what the the motherboard can take, which won't be a lot. Your best off building a cheap pc for a couple of hundred quid.
