Default Buying a PDA with GPS

I'm about to invest in one of these, any reccomendations? I'm leaning towards an Ipaq 2210 but can't decide between Bluetooth and wired is there much difference in performance?

I found this at www.totalpda.com an Ipaq 2210, TomTom 3, either wired or bluetooth GPS for £339 or £359 respectively - is there currently anywhere else with a better price?
http://www.totalpda.co.uk/TomTom-Nav...m-Car-Kit.aspx

Also is there anything else I really need?

Cheers

Richard

BTW - unfortunately don't live near an Aldi....

Try here for prices of different packages.

Have heard Tom Tom 3 is bad news - lots of bugs and problems. Have a look at the Tom Tom forum here.

Bluetooth works very well, and removes some of the clutter of wires. Bluetooth GPS receiver even seems to work in the trinket tray on the Scoob (infront of the gear stick).

The prices you quote seems OK, even when you add the VAT. Have a look on Ebay though - Should be able to get Bluetooth capable ipaq for around 200, and bluetooth GPS mouse for less than 100 (or some deals on TT3 and GPS receiver + windscreen mount). If you're lucky, you may get change from 400 quid for the lot.... so 20 odd quid cheaper than totalpda, but probably not worth the hassle.

Just make sure you have all the requisite power / interconnect cables - and go for a windscreen mount rather than a vent mount.

PC World are sold out on the web, in my local store and in Sheffield and Leeds.....
So looks like my options are £398 for a wired one or £433 for the bluetooth from Total PDA (inc VAT)

Is there anywhere else cheaper - totalpda.com will price match?

Cheers

Richard

Ipaq 2210 and TT3 using Bluetooth GPS is a no go at the moment. Tom Tom have released two upgrades to TT3 which have yet to fix the lock up that is occuring when used with the 2210. Basically the BT stack crashes and TT3 freezes. There is an unofficial fix for the 2210 on the net which some people have had success with. I am trying it on mine tomorrow, if it does not work then TT3 is going back.

It works OK with the patch installed but beware TomTom support.

Can you use TomTom with an XDA II? I've just got an XDA and it's a great piece of kit. You can get them for under £150 on a £30 a month contract.

I am running TT 3.02 on my 2210 with a TT BT mouse and it still freezes. I am now resorting to TT2 until the problems with TT3 are resolved. It's the worst "free" upgrade I have ever had from any software vendor.

I have just bought the kit from Dixons in Congleton they still had some left. The deal is with the wired GPS unit and Tomtom 3 and so far works great. just ordered a 256Mb SD card for it to store all the maps on it.

Si is the problem only with the blue tooth or all systems?

I called in to the local PC World on Sunday and they only had the PDA left. Purchased the package though and took the PDA away. Just waiting for the Tomtom kit now.

Went into the store yesterday to check on progress of order. Was told that the Tomtom kit could take over a month to get here. I think PC World were suprised by the interest in the offer.

The nearest I could find to there offer was over £100 more expensive. None of the website offering to price match would even compete with PC World.
