Unhappy Window Media Players is all screwed up (virus?)

I think something may be wrong with the house computer (its my flatmates). It has some fairly basic firewalls and virus stuff but I think something might have gotten through as windows media players suddenly went all wierd.

First of all the icon changed to some other funny little picture and when you try to open a movie the Sygate firewall says that WinWildApp.exe is trying to connect to data.overpro.com (64.95.76.4) using remote port 80 do you want to allow this program to access the network?

No answer you can give will get WMP to open up

Any suggestions

You could try downloading NAI Stinger to see if that picks it up or go to a online AV scanner Panda NAI most AV do them

I've downloaded the latest version of stinger but that didn't pick anything up! Is there anything else I can try?

Sounds almost certainly like the Windows Media Player executable itself has been infected by a virus/worm/piece of malware. If Stinger doesn't identify it as a virus, either use another virus scanner, or alternatively, try something like Ad-Aware.

Can't use an online checker by the looks of things as the virus seems to have fooked up a lot of other stuff including flash. For example, when I hover over a thread in SN it no longer pops up the window to show me the first few lines and going to fhm.com crashes internet explorer

Default Scanner

PC-cillin is quite good, you could also try uninstalling your media player completely and then downloading the latest version from windows update.
