Xbox Live Changes - Modded Boxes...

Xbox Live Changes - Modded Boxes...
Below is a quote from another forum I frequent:-
Does anyone know if there is any truth in it?
K.
There was a Live update yesterday and MS refused to say what it did. Well tonight I decided to try my modded UK machine (bigger HD) to see if they had done what I had thought..and they seem to have. My machine was instantly banned even with the switch turned off.
I dont know if it's cos the machine is modded or 'cos I have a bigger HD, either way be warned that it may affect everyone with a modded machine that has played Live until now.

Thought that was always the case. AFAIK most people add a switch to turn off their mod chip if they want to go on X-Box live to stop them getting banned.

Mark - what do you mean by "alternatives"? - Alternate methods of online play? If so, which one's do you use, and is there a particular one you would recommend - I've heard good things about XBC but have yet to ry it.
It would be good to have a "backup" just in case...

As a sidenote - I can't quite understand why M$ take such a dim view of the modding scene It's a worthy compliment to the xbox IMO that so many people want to take full advantage of it's hardware capabilities.
I'm sure that were M$ to legitimise the "mod-scene" they would benefit hugely. An approved aftermarket chip for enthusiasts would be of great interest to many, and M$ could take the opportunity to promote aftermarket dashboards and software.
It's certainly what I'd do if I was M$. Seems like a no-brainer to me - the resources, and development that goes into thwarting hackers, and policing the XBL network must be huge

Can't find anything solid to back that claim up, I would assume xbox-scene would be reporting something if it was true......
Now do I risk trying PGR2 this evening or do I sit and wait for some news...?!?!?

This is one of the main problems with PC gaming, although a lot of games are using the Punkbuster system now which helps to get rid of the cheats.

Yes - I use Xlink on the PC (XBC)... It appears to the xbox as though the other xboxes are on the LAN -
I've played with 2 on 1 LAN, and 3 others on remote sites, via my broadband PC....
Works Well..

I can understandd microsoft reluctance to modded xboxes, just think how long it would take for some ****** to start spreading viruses through the xbox live servers, it is bad enough with normal windows, at least the live servers can not become infected if they just ban modded boxes, also if you want a PC buy a PC if you want a games console buy an xbox.

Oh and I have a Modded and a Non Modded Xbox one for live One for everything else
PS. Live is still by far the best online play out there. yes you can use XBC but you don't get any of the functionality that makes Live so good. If you just want to Frag/Race/Play then XBC is for you. But if you want to use the games like Gotham the way it was meant to be played then Live is it.

I have a modded box and it works fine online even after the patch upgrade..
Its probably his bigger HD that has caused the problem..
Anyway thinking of selling my XBox as I need the cash.. great console thou, I just dont play it as much as I thought..

I ran mine last night on live no problems.. Did the update and was fine.. That's a modded Xbox with a 120GB HDD, obviously my chip was disabled...

Probably leaving them online so they can scan large hard drives for content. Anyone read the licence agreement lately. It would be simple for MS to find and remove modded Xbox's if they felt the need.

You can't boot the xbox without the drive locked unless you have it modded can you? its always been the case random people banned with large/modded HD's do as I do and get your original and large HD's switched aswell as yer mod chip.
