cant send emails - HELP
The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was 'marc.williamson2@btopenworld.com'. Subject 'Re: marcus', Account: 'POP3 (1)', Server: 'SMTP.btopenworld.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '530 authentication required - for help go to http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/pop/pop-11.html', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78
This is the message I get when I try to email, but I can still receive emails???
Can anybody help???
Cheers...

sounds like you are trying to send email through a different outgoing server from the one your email address belongs to. (For example you are using a Yahoo email address and trying to send via BT Openworlds server.) Most ISPs do not allow this to restrict the amount of spam they transmit.
Also check your settings in Outlook/Express as it looks like the server you are trying to use requires you to authenticate your account before you are allowed to send mail.
(This is at the bottom of the servers tab in outlook express accounts page)

yep, sounds like you need to check your SMTP server address mate in email accounts, make sure its the one supplied by your ISP, as its not authenicating you, in place to help reduce mail relay and spam

If you're not using a BTOpenworld connection, either dial-up or adsl, then BT will block the mail. I have this problem too, have a Nildram adsl connection and can't send bt e-mails, get the same error message.

Jim555, try changing the outgoing (SMTP) server in the BT account so it is the same as in your nildram account. Cannot guarantee it will work but worth a try.

Thanks guys for your help so far,
I currently have my account set upo as follows
incoming - pop3.btopenworld.com
outgoing - smtp.btopenworld.com
So your suggestions about a different web provider sound right, as I am now on broad band supplied by telewest/ webstar?? But use to be on BT. And this has only happened since the switch. The only problem is I don't know what the outgoing mail one should now be
Currently set as - smtp.btopenworld.com
I've tried smtp.blueyonder.com and smtp.webstar.com but I guess this is wrong as it still doesn't work.
So..... Does anybody know what I should be putting in???
Sorry about the essay!
Cheers Marc (jon17)

Jon,
I had the same issue. I was using MS Outlook as my web client for my POP mail from my web account. U need to specify ur account credentials (Username and password) in the advanced settings of ur account properties in Outlook to send outgoing mail.
This is ASSUMING u r using a mail client such as Outlook
Hope this helps
regards
Aceman
