Replace BT/freeserve with broadband?
Currently running BT line (at £12 or so a month) and 56k dial up at £15 a month. so £27 ish per month.
How much is broadband (500k) that includes the phone line as well as the isp rental? (i.e. all in).
Best to buy router/net card myself?
In croydon area if that helps.
Alternatively, is cable an option as I'd get TV thrown in as well?

You need a BT line for ADSL broadband but you can use the phone at the same time. I use F2s it's £22.50 with no setup fee. I had to buy a router from Dabs for £30 and my own splitters.

have a look at www.bulldogdsl, www.cpbb.co.uk or www.pipex.co.uk. or you might want to consider cable if available in your area. i think croydon is covered by telewest.
pipex would be the cheapest options, no activation fees if you stay with them for 12 months.
get your own hardware. they are only about £36 (including VAT) for a 4-port modem router. have a look at ww.ebuyer.co.uk and do a search on "adsl modem".
