Default Wireless network unavailable message

New Dell PC with Dell's own USB wireless adapter. Plugged it in and all I get is a red cross on the network icon and the message ' wireless connection unavailable' Also have an IBM T41 with wireless capability (Intel wireless LAN adapter). With the 2 machines sitting next to each other I thought the wireless systems would detect each other.
I'd like the T41 to use the Dell's internet connection. We already have the Dell on a normal LAN and other PC's use it's internet connection also.

Obviously I'm missing something......do I need a wireless router between the machines?

Thanks

Kevin.

You need some roaming software, and both computers should be on the same workgroup and set to ad-hoc network, P2Peer.

Roaming software? I'm guessing the laptop probably already has this - did notice it has AEGIS protocol setup, is this anything to do with roaming software. What software would you suggest?

Kevin you may have to configure the WLAN adapters with the adhoc option checked. Somewhere in the config for the WLAN adapter driver. This will allow PCs with WLAN card to talk to each other. Otherwise you need a WLAN Access point.
