The toolbar only installs a form of spyware if you installed the Advance version...

Google may collect information about web pages that you are viewing when the advanced functionality is enabled. However, this advanced functionality is optional, and can be easily disabled and re-enabled at any time (by selecting "Privacy Information..." in the Toolbar's "Google" menu.)

See http://www.google-watch.org/bigbro.html, which includes...

6. Google's toolbar is spyware:
With the advanced features enabled, Google's free toolbar for Explorer phones home with every page you surf, and yes, it reads your cookie too. Their privacy policy confesses this, but that's only because Alexa lost a class-action lawsuit when their toolbar did the same thing, and their privacy policy failed to explain this. Worse yet, Google's toolbar updates to new versions quietly, and without asking. This means that if you have the toolbar installed, Google essentially has complete access to your hard disk every time you connect to Google (which is many times a day). Most software vendors, and even Microsoft, ask if you'd like an updated version. But not Google. Any software that updates automatically presents a massive security risk.
Makes ya wonder!

I dont mind them looking at what i am looking at, i just don't want bollocks software being installed all over my pc.

I'm running SP2 for XP and IE now has built in popup blocker. It now catches them before my googlebar gets chance.

I've been running google toolbar for ages in advanced mode. Funny that no anti spyware software flags it up as bad.

As long as you understand what feedback it is sending to google, don't get worried by net paranoids.

I'll probably get SP2 installed asap..

Anyone know a neat way to block flash adverts etc without de-installing flash ??
