I've recently set up a small site for the west yorkshire owners, the problem I need help with is the url masking..

If I access the site through http://aa.1asphost.com/MadGrip/webpage/ everything works fine and is fully functional.

the problem comes when I use my domain name.

it basically masks the URL , which is what I wanted, but when you login to the BBS part of the site it says "logged In" but after the page refreshes it seems your not logged in.

the site works well , its just advice on how to solve the URL masking problem that I need.

the domain is www.wyioc.com but I've turned it off for now as it screws up the bbs.

I'll put it back on so you can have a look for yourself.

Have you checked your cookie settings for the forum?

 

yes mate, I know its some sort of cookie problem, but like I said it only causes trouble when using the domain name.

I set cookies to BBS rather than website, but either way round I cant get it to work yet.

it seems to work through the address the first couple of times, but after that no one can login anymore unless cookie are set to minimum security on the pc of the user trying to get access.

hmm

in that case it will be to do with migrating cookies across domains, and the lack of ability to do so

as you're embedding the information inside another url's frameset this might cause the issue

either that, or the fact that IE doesnt like updating content in framesets, you log in, and it goes right back to the logged out page without realising you're requesting new content

this is a common problem at the place I work when we update clients sites (yes some of them use framesets ) and they cant see the content change.

actually scrub that... its to do with IE's security to allow "other sites" to drop cookies onto your puter that dont come from the url in the nav bar ie wyioc.com

dont think there's a way around it either apart from altering security settings

seems a shame that a good bbs sofware will only accept users if they reduce cookie security.

I'll look into it a bit more, but if you think of anything can you let me know?

I've seen this myself on our intranet. Using a main site but with web applications on another site "embedded" within the frameset (shudder). The cookie by the web app gets binned by IE because it isn't from the same machine.

Right pig when I didn't realise what was happening.

Our solution was obvious, host the whole lot on the same domain. However, that isn't much help to you. Well, you could of course get some hosting to go with the domain name, but of course that'll cost.

I'll have a think as well.

I do have the option of getting the domain hosted elsewhere, but I'm not sure that the company hosting the pages will do it, I'll look into it a bit more.
