Media Center PC!
I've currently got a Hauppage TV card which is fine for watching tv on, but the damn thing wont let me use any of the PVR functions. I believe I need a hardware mpeg encoder to use it???
Anyways, I have a spare monitor - and i'd like to be able to watch tv etc whilst still working on the pc - so I'm gonna build a media center.
I have a few questions
1) To be able to use it like a TIVO what am i gonna need?
2) Anyone have experience of TV cards?? I've seen screen caps which look excellent, however it looks very "grainy" on mine - is that the graphics card?
3) Anyone used Windows Media Center??
Andy
With regard to the grainy pic, no it isn't the reception - it's plugged into my digital cable tv box. Tried it on both scart->SVIDEO and RF.

I've used media centre and another companies version of it, have you thought about an xbox, they can be tivo aswell, you need a usb capture card, chip for xbox obviously an xbox and you'd probably want to increase the harddrive size and some patience but all in your looking at £250-300 plus a cracking games console
Mine is link to server pc for all my cd's, video's (mpg, avi,rm's,mov's,xvid's) dvd's, pictures, heck it even tells me the weather
