Grrrr Xbox relax problems
My GF wants to use my XBOX to watch the season 3 episodes of 24 I have on my PC(I'm offshore for two weeks so can't get to the PC). I had a problem with XP corrupting my ICS settings so my other Xbox wouldn't connect to live. I did a system restore and all was fine with Live.
Problem is my Xbox now can't see anything on my PC HDD. it just sits on Videos on my pc folder in XBMP
can't think what has changed since all was well before the system restore with this part of my system. I have had her indoors FTP the Xbox and that works but the Xbox can't see in ? why would system restore block the 1400 port I was using for relax
and ideas Guru

Is Relax definately running ? If you had set it to run as a service then done a sys restore it may have removed it from services ?
Your ports you opened on the router shouldn't have changed, but you may have lost any ports you may have opened on a software firewall ?

Relax is still running as a service on XP startup it loads as normal would I have to start the service again ?
it has to be my software firewall that's at fault. I can FTP the box but the box can't see the C:
I'll try and talk her through opening the port

Good luck with the ports
Its work double-checking that the service is still running (maybe just start Relax non-service to be on the safe side, although I had problems if I accidentally started it to many times, it got a bit confused) , also check that the folders have been moved around and that she is selecting the correct option from XBMP (XNS).

if the little green X appears in the sys tray does that mean it's open and started or just open
I thought if it was in the sys tray then it was ok

Should be open and started.
Try:
My Computer.. choose Manage.. The Computer manager will now appear.. expand "Services and Applications" and choose "services" ...
Just to check if its running.
You could also try from the Command promt . . .
c:\relax\relax.exe -uninstall
then . . .
c:\relax\relax.exe -install
Just to be sure

Did your Xbox get given an IP Addy using DHCP after the system restore ? If so are there any port settings or MAC address stuff you may need to take into account ?
Did you do a full system restore from a Slayer disk ? - if so maybe the shares you had configured were blown away when the apps got installed afresh ???
Good luck m8.
As for not using Relax...when I first got all this homebrew stuff I tried to use samba shares on my pc pointing at my i-Tunes directory. I found it incredibley slow at moving within the directory structure its made (artist/album). When I started using RelaX it all went away - its also pretty good at joining up directories under a single share.
Anyone else find samba shares slow in XBMP ?

I had the Girlfriend Disable the firewall last night over the phone and that didn't make any differnence
I've run out of ideas other than it's relax not working ? or maybe that Relax is loading on startup but the Relax server hasn't started for some reason ?
she is using the correct method on the Xbox>XBMP>My Videos>Videos on my PC
I'm stummped at the moment but it doesn't help trying to fix it when your 500 miles away over the phone.
Relax must be the problem now

Can't see what else it could be mate.
If you can FTP to the X-Box okay then networking is fine.
Only things to check are:
1) Relax is configured correctly and PC folders are correct
2) Relax is running on the host PC
3) Port 1400 open to X-Box on LAN
4) XBMP config file correct
5) User selecting correct option (Network - XNS)

1) Relax is configured correctly and PC folders are correct
when I set Relax up I couldn't get it to work so I set the folders in XBMP config as C:\mydocuments and settings\My music@192.168 blah blah:1400
2) Relax is running on the host PC
Looks like it is but GF isn't too handy with that stuff
3) Port 1400 open to X-Box on LAN
No firewall so it should be ? would XP block this with no Firewall
4) XBMP config file correct
As above
5) User selecting correct option (Network - XNS)
she knows how to watch her sex and the city from it when I've been away before fo I hink she's ok here

Don;t bother burning them - just FTP them onto the XBOX !
I do - I used to use SAMBA, but its fairly slow and if the kids start SIMS on the PC - It just dies - Also, having 3 XBOXs share to one PC is a nightmare !
I use FlashFXP to ftp media to the box(es) and watch locally - TV eps usually take 2-5 mins, depending on LAN or Wireless (54G) to transfer and no probs
(Well, till I played a CSI - Las Vegas last night, that keeps crashing )
Anyhow, FTP'ing them might allow G/F to watch till you get home to fix properly,
Mark

Update.
Network ....OK
FTP...........OK
Relax wasn't running as a service after the system restore both start and stop server buttons were grey'd out and we couldn't do anythin with it. Started as a service now but still not working.
Think I'll have to Re-install Relax as it seems I've tried everything else
still three day's before I get home to try all this for myself.
