Question Setting up a home network?

I am about to set up a home network and need some advice.

What I have:

one XP laptop
two Windows 2000 machines
An ISDN router
and a hub

What I want to do is get all PC's connected to ISDN, all PC's to use one printer and all PC's to use a shared folder.

My plan is to use a rairly used Windows 2000 machine as the server. Have a shared folder on this and the printer.

What's the best way to set this up? Should I set up a workgroup or a domain? Do I need two network cards in the machine I am going to use as the server or can I plug the Router and all PC's into the Hub.

No need to use a domain - use a workgroup. Plug the router and all PCs in to the hub - don't need 2 NICs in the server.

Thanks Jay

How do you share the ISDN connection on the other two machines?

You will need to check the config on the ISDN router - but it should simply be a case of assigning an IP address to your XP & 2K boxes in the same subnet as the router - then using the routers IP address as their default gateway.

I have a similiar setup to yourself, an XP pro Laptop and 2 windows 2000 server boxes, one of which is a Domain Controller (Active directory) and the other a member server. Takes longer to set this up, but you learn shed loads.

Just make sure your ISDN router and all the PCs are plugged into the hub and all on the same subnet and everything should be fine, but you might run into further issues, for example NAT.
